Congratulations to Delia Browne on her term as Chair of Creative Commons.

Creative Commons Australia (CC Australia) would like to recognise and celebrate Delia Browne’s term as Chair of the Board of Creative Commons (CC). As of 30 October 2024, CC ushered in new Board leadership with the appointment of Angela Oduor Lungati as Chair. The transition marks the conclusion of Delia’s impactful tenure on the Board.

Delia served as Chair of the Board from late 2022 and had been on the Board since 2018. As the first Chair appointed from outside of the United States of America, Delia brought an important global perspective to the organisation. And her leadership has been instrumental in guiding CC through important milestones, including the pivotal role she played in the CEO transition earlier this year, ensuring stability and continuity in a period of change.

Among her many achievements, Delia has attended every CC Global Summit since 2007, represented CC at the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights and was part of the team that authored CC’s Global Network Strategy in 2017. Delia’s involvement in CC here in Australia has been similarly long and impactful, as has her work in copyright in Australia.

Beyond her contributions as Chair, Delia has been a steadfast advocate for open education and copyright reform. As the leader of Australia’s National Copyright Unit, she provides specialist copyright advice to Australian schools and TAFEs. Delia co-founded Peer 2 Peer University (P2PU) and is a longstanding Board member of the Australian Digital Alliance.

Although Delia’s time on the CC Board has come to an end, she has joined the CC Advisory Council and will continue to support CC’s strategic efforts. Her expertise and experience will be critical as the organisation continues to navigate the evolving landscape of open and copyright reform, espeically in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

As Delia steps down from the CC Board, CC Australia expresses gratitude for her unwavering support and numerous contributions to the CC community globally. Her leadership has made a lasting impact on the global open movement, and we are grateful for her continued passion.

CC Australia would also like to warmly welcome Angela as the incoming Chair. Her tenure coincides with Creative Commons’ new strategic plan, making it an exciting time for CC going forward.
